Fire starts with heat, long before you see flames

What does a camera see at three in the morning when no one is watching? The DVC DTC-BF5073V2 combines thermal and optical imaging for warehouses, industrial facilities and waste storage yards

Dear Partners,

Picture an industrial site at three in the morning. The shift has ended, the lights are off, and a pile of material in the corner of the yard is slowly heating up. There is no smoke or flame yet. A conventional camera shows nothing unusual, so even a security guard watching the monitor has no reason to raise the alarm.

In recent months, several major fires have affected industrial facilities and waste processing centres across Croatia and the wider region. The consequences extended beyond damaged equipment and business downtime, with smoke reaching nearby communities. In situations like these, the most valuable window is the time before anything becomes visible to the naked eye.

That is why we would like to introduce the DVC DTC-BF5073V2 — a camera worth recommending to customers with these kinds of risk areas.

One camera, two views

The 256 × 192 thermal sensor detects temperature differences in daylight and complete darkness. When the temperature of a monitored surface exceeds your configured threshold, the camera triggers an alarm. It also features built-in fire detection.

Alongside the thermal sensor is a 5 MP optical camera. When an alarm comes in, the operator does not have to guess whether it indicates a hot spot, hot exhaust from a forklift or a false alarm — they can simply check the image. That assessment takes just a few seconds, without anyone having to go out to the site.

Why recommend it to your customers?

Above all, it gives them time. A high-temperature alert can arrive before smoke or flames appear, when taking action is still at its simplest.

Another advantage is that it keeps working when no one is there: overnight, at weekends and on public holidays. Built-in audible and visual alarms also provide an immediate warning on site.

For installers, deployment is much like installing a conventional IP camera. The unit supports PoE and ONVIF, while its IP66-rated housing and operating temperature range of −30 to +60 °C make it suitable for outdoor installation.

Where to recommend it

It is particularly well suited to waste and secondary raw material storage areas, stockpiles of wood, pellets and biomass, as well as outdoor storage areas and logistics yards. More broadly, it is useful wherever a customer’s risk assessment identifies a need for additional monitoring.

When you discuss it with a customer, you are offering more than a camera — you are offering a few minutes’ head start. With a well-organised response procedure, those minutes can make the difference between prompt intervention and days of downtime spent assessing what could, at the very least, be substantial property damage.

If you are unsure how many cameras are needed or where to position them, get in touch. We will be happy to review the site with you and recommend a suitable solution.
